Before the Fall director Francisco Javier Gutiérrez returns to Spain to deliver THE WAIT, a sinister folk horror tragedy that takes place in the dark, magic and forgotten Andalusian countryside, a place marked by ancestral traditions. The director of Rings delivers his most intimate and brutal film, portraying the macabre descent into hell of a man who suffered the tragic loss of his family.

Eladio (Victor Clavijo), a hunting estate keeper, takes a bribe from a veteran hunter. Weeks later, his whole life falls apart. Death, guilt and revenge will take over. What looked like the opportunity of a lifetime turns into a macabre descent to hell, where Eladio will test his boundaries.

Reviews

  • "This beautifully shot, folk horror revenge thriller... takes viewers along on a macabre descent into hell that’s worth the investment."
    Louisa Moore, Screen Zealots
  • "Clavijo gives a gripping performance as a man driven to desperation in more ways than one...."
    Joseph Perry, Horror Fuel
  • "La espera, or The Wait, is a slow burn film done right with just the right amount of disturbing elements...."
    Emilie Black, Cinema Crazed
  • "The Wait can be best enjoyed for its haunting visuals and grime embedded aesthetic. It is precise filmmaking on many levels"
    Nadine Whitney, AWFJ.org
  • "When it boldly turns to horror and fantasy, The Wait becomes a film that's infinitely more interesting than what its beginning may suggest."
    Desirée De Fez, Fotogramas
  • "The Wait is a brooding, potent tale of calamity, loss, revenge, and class divides. It would do it a disservice to call it merely a horror film, as there is so much more here and plenty of food for thought."
    Martin Unsworth, Starburst
