Synopsis

Galia, a young woman from Jerusalem, and her boyfriend Oren board a local bus. The bus explodes, leaving Oren in a coma and Galia with severe burns and memory loss; she lacks memory of the day of the terrorist attack and the days leading up to it. The film begins one year after the attack, upon Oren's death. As Galia undergoes physical and mental therapy, she attempts to stitch together the shattered fragments of her life and soul. A necklace sent to her from an unidentified source sets her off on a journey to find the missing pieces of the puzzle from that fateful day.

During a cease-fire in the Lebanon-Israeli conflict of 2006, a Christian taxi driver brings a Shiite woman from Beirut to the heart of the conflict in the country's south. While they scour the rubble of local towns for her son they discover that despite their very different backgrounds they have much in common. During their trip through the desolate countryside, the two travelers develop a deep bond as a response to the death looming all around them. The film was shot entirely on location during the summer of 2006, in the middle of the ruins of war-torn Lebanon. Director Philipe Aractingi only hired two professional actors, the rest are real refugees, journalists, soldiers, etc. playing themselves.

ALIYAH
Directed by Elie Wajeman
YEAR 11 FILM 3
Alex, 27, lives in a working-class Paris neighborhood and sells drugs for a living, continuously paying off the debts of his brother Isaac (played by French auteur Cedric Kahn), who's becoming a real burden. When his cousin, who has just returned from completing his military service in Israel, tells him he's opening a restaurant in Tel Aviv, Alex thinks that joining him might be the life-changing opportunity he was waiting for. But in order to leave, Alex must quickly find enough money and accomplish his "aliyah" (the term for Jews emigrating to Israel) which involves, among other things, Hebrew lessons and connecting with his Jewish roots. He also has to leave behind his beloved city of Paris, his former lover Esther, his lifelong friend Mathias, and Jeanne, a woman whom he's just met but has the potential of becoming someone important in his life. Torn between making his aliyah, his drug selling, his complicated love life and a destructive brother, Alex will have to find his own way and make a final decision.

A BOTTLE IN THE GAZA SEA
Directed by Thierry Binisti
17-year-old Tal has emigrated from France to Jerusalem with her family. She writes a letter expressing her refusal to accept that only hatred can reign between Israelis and Palestinians. She slips the letter into a bottle, and her brother throws it into the sea near Gaza, where he is carrying out his military service. A few weeks later, Tal receives an e-mail response from a mysterious "Gazaman," a young Palestinian named Naim. Thus begins a turbulent but tender long-distance friendship between two young people that are separated by a history they are trying both to understand and change. This engrossing and hopeful drama starring Hiam Abbas is based on the award-winning novel by Valérie Zenatti.

I have been drawn into this film's mysterious qualities. Never quite knowing for sure what is reality. The ending was very unexpected. I was pleasantly surprised with "Seven Minutes in Heaven". I highly recommend this film!
