Cullinane served as the writer, director, and producer for Persistence, and he has been enjoying its success. His goal for the film was to learn more about his co-workers' skills outside of teaching and to gain exposure through festivals in order to open doors for future projects. The film has been a rousing success in that regard, and the most recent triumph for Persistence was its selection to be one of seven films screened at the 2003 Hamptons International Film Festival, which boasts Steven Spielberg as an advisor. Cullinane is looking forward to attending the festival. "Festivals give me the kind of exposure I can't buy," he says.
James has worked in numerous capacities on feature films, commercials, short films, and videos in America, Japan, and Sweden. His first short film, Summer Currents, was screened at several film festivals around the world, receiving praise for its beauty and simplicity. Cullinane is currently preparing his next short film project which he will produce next year, as well as raising funds for his first feature film, Rocky's Moon Trip.
