"...A modern tale on contemporary Italy where a love story intertwined with family affairs collides with the materialism of our times."
– Camilla de Marco, Cineuropa

Synopsis

GARIBALDI'S LOVERS presents a fizzy ride through a magical vision of metropolitan Italy, while at the same time casting a critical eye on modern life in the city. Widowed plumber Leo is struggling to deal with the growing pains of his two adolescent children, when his life intersects with penniless artist Diana and her eccentric landlord Amanzio. Through a hilarious series of coincidences, they give each other new hope for their futures - and for the city itself, so emblematic of our times.

AGATA AND THE STORM
Directed by Silvio Soldini
YEAR 3 FILM 7
A swirl of pop-art color, madcap magic, and the bittersweet call of life and love suddenly take the mature, ravishing, self-reliant Agata by storm. When Agata, the popular bookshop proprietor and dispenser of sunny wisdom in the form of books, is suddenly wooed by a man almost half her age, her electricity hits high-voltage. It even sends light bulbs bursting in her wake. Yet it is Agata's joy and 'explosive' magnetism in the face of life in all its irony that eventually offers the eye of the cyclone. There, all is supremely quiet and still, as Agata creates a haven of love and freedom to quell the storms of life's unfulfilled desires.

THE DEFLOWERING OF EVA VAN END
Directed by Michiel ten Horn
YEAR 11 FILM 7
In this perfect blend of satire and sincerity, a dysfunctional family gets turned on its head when the 'perfect' exchange student moves in. Every member of the van End family is preoccupied with his or her own peculiar fixation--be it father Evert's Skype relationship with a boy in Africa (seemingly his only functional relationship), or mother Etty's relentless tirades against her dope-dealing youngest son or praises for her eldest son about to marry. Trapped in the middle is the youngest--15 year-old Eva--struggling for any attention or affection at all. When Veit, the adonis German exchange student Eva invited, moves in, the family is shocked and each family member must confront his or her own doubts, insecurities, fears and desires. During Veit's two week stay, all five family members began to reinvent themselves led by former wallflower, Eva, who begins a dramatic transformation.

Jeff in Seattle - Customer Review
A widowed working father raising his two children, while occasionally interacting with his wife's ghost, meets a starving artist. They fall in love a midst a city full of corruption. Employers won't pay. Lawyers who cheats. Dubious boyfriends who post sex videos online. People get hurt and struggle, but love keeps everyone together and move forward. It's a good film, but often feels rambling.
