PORTUGUESE LANGUAGE - 2 PACK
Our Portuguese Language DVD pack contains two great award-winning films from Brazil, THE MAN OF THE YEAR and THE MIDDLE OF THE WORLD.
THE MAN OF THE YEAR "Imagine if the kids of City of God lived beyond the age of fifteen and became everyday citizens. Now imagine if Quentin Tarantino was Brazilian." -- Jamie Russell, BBC
THE MIDDLE OF THE WORLD "Although not what American studios generally mean by "family fare," this drama is actually excellent family viewing – it both opens a window onto another culture and, through Antonio, speaks the universal language of teen angst." --Ethan Alter, TV Guide

Synopsis
THE MAN OF THE YEAR Maiquel (Murilo Benicio) has lost a bet and dyed his hair blond. This little event triggers a head-on collision with destiny in which Maiquel goes from nobody to hero to outlaw…all in 24 hours. Based on the award-winning novel by Patricia Melo "O Matador", this vibrant and brazen crime saga follows in the vein of recent Brazilian Cinema such as Vincente Amorim's Middle of the World, Walter Salles' Central Station and Fernando Meirelles' City of God. - Winner Best Film Miami Brazilian Film Festival - Winner Special Mention San Sebastian International Film Festival
THE MIDDLE OF THE WORLD The Middle of the World is a road movie on bicycles. It is freely adapted from the true story of an unemployed truck driver who, with his wife and five children, pedals from Paraíba, in the poverty-stricken Northeast of Brazil, all the way to Rio de Janeiro looking for a job. Romão (the father) feels destined to earn 1000 reais (about 300 US$) a month – a vast sum for Brazilian standards. On four bikes, the family goes through five states, knows solidarity and indifference, aggressiveness and cordiality. A 2000-mile odyssey through the hinterlands of Brazil all the way to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil's best-known postcard. The Middle of the World shows the quest for the dream of a decent life – a story of dreams and hope. - Nominated Golden Seashell San Sebastian International Film Festival - Official Selection Toronto Int'l Film Festival
