The Munich Film Festival was established in 1983. Next to the Berlinale, it is Germany's largest festival with over 1,300,000 admissions to date. Annually, over 1,500 film-industry-related professionals from around the world as well as over 600 members of the press and media are accredited.

Since 1983, the festival has presented over 3,800 international, European or German premieres (feature films, documentaries, shorts and films for television).
